Towan Beach is located in the middle of town, easily accessible by foot. The beach is best suited to families and sits directly beside the harbour which you can walk over to at low tide. There is a lifeguard service, places to rent surfboards or bodyboards and a few various options for snacks and drinks. The beach is pet friendly so you can bring your furry four legged buddy for the fun.
The Blue Reef Aquarium is also down on the beach edge and is a great day out for everyone. They have loads of cool aquarium exhibits and a large tank with a walk through tunnel, so you can look up and see all the interesting fish.
To the right of the beach is a small island with a quaint little cottage and a private footpath. This is one of the iconic views that makes Newquay so special. Right below the island is a rock pool swimming area, great for the kids to play in.
To the left of the beach is Newquay harbour. The area along the edge of the harbour wall is great for exploring rock pools and small caves.
It is a lovely beach which is more sheltered so the water is usually nice and calm for all ages to enjoy. When the surf conditions do come, the waves are normally easy and perfect for beginners. Between May and September a life guard is on duty.
